Olympic Games: SAP Garden to host events in Munich

“OlympiJa”: SAP Garden takes a stand on the referendumOur home stadium as an important part of the bid// CURRENTSAP Garden takes a stand on the referendum on Sunday, October 26, and speaks out in favor of bidding for the Olympic and Paralympic Games starting in 2036.
The Olympic Park, which provided a worthy stage for this unrivaled sporting event back in 1972, would be the focal point of these Games. As one of the most modern sports arenas in Europe, the SAP Garden will also play a major role in the bid. We want to present Munich's newest landmark on the world's biggest sporting stage and become part of the long history of the Olympics.
"The city of Munich and sport – and the Olympics in particular – have already written great stories in the past. We have a superb facility that is still in use. I believe people are ready to welcome top-class sport back to the state capital," says Patrick Hager, captain of four-time German ice hockey champions EHC Red Bull Munich, who play their home games at SAP Garden. The national player is strongly in favor of a bid: “For us athletes, it's a lifelong dream to compete in world championships or the Olympics. So, come on, vote ‘yes’ and let's celebrate a wonderful event together.”
We say: Yes to the Olympics!

In addition to the sporting festivities and unique diversity of disciplines, the Olympic Games also have many attractions outside of the competition. Cities that have hosted the tournament in the past have demonstrably benefited from the Olympics in terms of infrastructure, housing, and the economy.
Reiter emphasizes opportunities presented by the Olympic Games
“Why am I in favor of bringing the Summer Olympics to Munich? Because I am convinced that the Summer Olympics are good for Munich,” says Mayor Dieter Reiter, promoting the referendum on Sunday and citing numerous reasons: "The people of Munich are sports enthusiasts; there are around 700 sports clubs in our city. We are cosmopolitan and hospitable. Even the bid itself could provide a positive impetus in a time of global crises. True to the motto: We dare to embrace the future and want to further develop our city with a view to the people who live here. Just as 1972 was a strong impetus for the decades that followed."

Reiter, who has been a guest at SAP Garden on several occasions, also sees the existing infrastructure in the Olympic Park and potential modernization as ideal conditions that would suit the Games well. “The Olympic Park, with its stadium and sensational tent roof structure, continues to inspire people to this day. With the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games as a goal, many projects that are important for our city would receive a boost, such as the expansion of public transportation and the construction of urgently needed housing. We should seize this opportunity,” Reiter appeals ahead of the municipal election.
“OlympiJa”: Go vote on October 26
The SAP Garden supports a bid for the Olympic and Paralympic Games starting in 2036 and says, “OlympiJa.” Vote for the Games on October 26. Being in favor of it is everything—united for Munich.
