This means that fans will know, seven months before the tournament begins, the times at which the games will be played at the six World Cup venues: Munich, Stuttgart, Kiel, Magdeburg, Hanover, and Cologne.
Germany’s Matches in Prime Time
The match times for the German national team have also been finalized: The team, led by head coach Alfred Gislason, will face Tunisia on January 13 in its World Cup opener in Munich, Uruguay on January 15, and Serbia on January 17. All three matches will begin at 8:30 p.m. at the SAP Garden.
“Now that the start times have been set, the 2027 World Championship is becoming even more tangible for many fans. The draw has already sparked anticipation for the matches; now visitors can start planning their personal World Championship experiences. The fact that the German national team will play all its preliminary round matches during prime time creates an attractive setting for fans both in the arena and in front of their screens,” says Mark Schober, Chairman of the German Handball Federation.
The opening match day on January 13 holds a special place in the schedule. The tournament’s first game begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by the official opening ceremony, and the German team will play its opening match that evening. On the remaining preliminary round match days, games will generally tip off at 6:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. The preliminary round will take place from January 13 to 19 in Munich, Stuttgart, Kiel, and Magdeburg.
