Everything is already being prepared in the background. After the concreting of the three training ice surfaces with around 285 cubic meters of concrete each and the installation of the cooling systems were completed a few weeks ago, the foundation for the future main playing surface has now also been laid.
How the cooling system was installed
Before the concreting of the main playing surface could begin, 22,000 linear meters of precision steel pipes were laid. In future, 193,000 liters of ethylene glycol will flow through the entire cooling system under the ice surface every hour. This is a cooling liquid that keeps the ice permanently frozen.
Around 5,200 weld seams were hand-welded to join the pipes and individually checked in detail. The entire process of drilling the ice track took four weeks.

After drilling is before concreting
Once the cooling system had been installed and tested, the ice surface was concreted. In a single day, around 260 cubic meters, i.e. a total of 625 tons of special concrete, were delivered by truck mixer and poured using a concrete pump.
The multi-layered and finally leveled concrete surface was covered at the end to prevent it from drying out too quickly. After around four weeks, the initial cooling of the surface could then begin before the ice for EHC Red Bull München's home games is created.
