One million visitors: SAP Garden celebrates major milestone
It has been less than a year and a half since SAP Garden opened its doors for the first time at its grand opening on September 27, 2024. The new Munich landmark was completely sold out for the game between the Red Bulls and the Buffalo Sabres – how could it be otherwise?
To date, there have been 44 more games by the four-time German ice hockey champions, 34 basketball games by FC Bayern München, and 21 other sporting events. That makes a total of 100 events in front of over 1,000,000 spectators. SAP Garden has established itself in Munich and has become a place of pilgrimage for sports enthusiasts.
A look back at previous events
With EHC Red Bull München and FC Bayern Basketball, two top teams from the state capital have found a new home in Munich's Olympic Park. The ice hockey club has a new venue for all its home games, while the basketball team mainly plays its EuroLeague home games at SAP Garden as an additional venue.
With XXX visitors to the recent DEL games, almost half of the spectators to date can be attributed to Red Bull Munich. The FC Bayern basketball team, which has sold out every game without exception so far, attracted a total of XXX spectators to the SAP Garden.
The other events were also very popular. Nearly 160,000 visitors attended events such as the Beckenbauer Cup, Red Bull League Of Its Own, MMA Oktagon, the UEFA Ultimate Champions Legends Tournament, the ProSieben Celebrity Padel World Cup, the Harlem Globetrotters, the Handball and Basketball Super Cup, and most recently the fairytale musical on ice, Cinderella.
The approximately 180,000 visitors who have taken to the ice on the three additional ice rinks in the recreational sports area since the opening add to the impressive total of one million.
Outlook for upcoming events
The coming year also has spectacular events in store beyond the games of EHC Red Bull München and the Bayern basketball team. First, on January 18, the successor to the Beckenbauer Cup will take place at SAP Garden: the FC Bayern Legends Cup. Legends from six top international teams will be guests for a second time.
This will be followed by the Fight Night Championship (February 6), the BBL Cup TOP FOUR (February 21), the second appearance of the Harlem Globetrotters (May 2), and the Women's and Men's Handball Super Cup (August 22) as fixed events in the coming year.
Another highlight is the preliminary round of the 2027 Handball World Cup the following year, when the German group will compete at SAP Garden. And we promise: it certainly won't stop there. Here's to the next million!
