Countdown to the grand opening: 4 days, 4 speedsters for perfect ice// GRAND OPENINGOnly 4 days to go! On September 27, the SAP Garden will kick off the Grand Opening Week. In the ten days leading up to it, we will be sharing ten interesting facts about Munich's new landmark.To ensure that both the professional ice hockey players of EHC Red Bull München and amateur ice skaters enjoy optimum conditions in the SAP Garden, the smooth surface must be freshly polished before each use.
Four "Ice Tiger" machines in the SAP Garden
A total of four ice machines of the same size from the company "Engo" (South Tyrol) are available for the main playing surface and the three additional underground training areas. These belong to the latest model with the name "Ice Tiger".
This model has a weight of up to 6,800 kilograms and a top speed of 13 km/h, which means that ice surfaces of up to 3,000 square meters can be processed. The ergonomically designed driver's cockpit also has a proportional joystick and a 10.4-inch color display with touchscreen.
Four ice resurfacing sessions for Red Bulls home games
Eight ice technicians ensure that the four pucks regularly make their rounds. At home matches of the Red Bulls, for example, the ice is renewed immediately before and after the warm-up of both teams, so immediately before the start of the game, as well as in the first and second third breaks.
At the beginning of 2025, two "Ice Tigers" will probably be replaced with two of the latest machines. These will also be equipped with two LED monitors.
